Salewa Vertical Pro Mountaineering Boot
Roger Schäli, member of SALEWA’s alpineXtrem Team, explains his personal expectations for his footwear: "My pro footwear for winter alpinism in mixed terrain or on vertical walls of pure ice must combine light weight and insulation. In addition, I expect the ability to place my foot precisely, especially when using crampons.“ Footwear designers at SALEWA have succeeded in fulfilling these demands with the Pro Line. After two years of intensive R&D plus testing by world-class athletes, the Vertical Pro was born – just one in a complete Pro Line of mountaineering boots that reflects the results of this development expertise.
Attributes of the Vertical Pro that speak for themselves include the "superfabric“ used in the uppers made of Perwanger suede leather. In addition the boot has a 360-degree full rubber rand to keep out snow and ice, as well as an absolutely waterproof GORE-TEX lining plus an additional aluminum membrane that provides outstanding insulation from the cold. The Vibram-SALEWA Pro outsole that guarantees maximal grip has been designed especially for use on snow and ice
I bought these in hopes of climbing Peak Lenin in Kyrgyzstan this summer. The fit is so good for wide feet, but I did break one of the lace loops my second day of using them before Kyrgyzstan. I was able to get it fixed in time for the big climb though. On the peak they were fine, except I got alpine toe (numbness) on the way down since I bought them snug for ice climbing. They are about a half size too small, which is my fault, not the boots'. Overall, killer boot! Just need to make some parts a bit more durable.
