Winner of Climbing magazine's 2003 Editor's Choice Award for the best approach shoe. The D7 has a comfortable and precise fit, it edges extremely well and has a sticky outsole. That is pretty much what you want in an approach shoe. The fit comes from Montrail's IntegraFitTM last and you can immediately feel the good heel hold and arch support. However, we modified the toe of the last to be lower volume and tapered for better control and edging. The midsole is a low-profile dual-density EVA that has been buffed on the edges to bring the outsole edge directly underneath the edge of your foot for better power and control. The outsole has two co-molded compounds: a non-marking sticky rubber from VibramŽ, called TC4+, in the forefoot for smearing traction, and a harder more durable Trek compound in the heel for descending traction and wear.
