Join us for Bentgate's live webseries: G(n)AT Chats, focusing on Gear, Adventures, and Training.
In 2012, Littleton-based mountaineer Ellie Briggs set out to complete Colorado's Fourteeners while accompanied by her medical alert dog Loki Eddison. This presentation accounts her 7 year journey to climb all 58 Fourteeners in Colorado and summit Mt. Rainier. She’ll share highs and lows throughout their journey, including the time Loki met a porcupine, their difficult climbs on Mt. Rainier & Capitol Peak, and discuss mountain-specific training, gear, safety, and trip-planning. We’ll conclude the evening with a Q&A session and look for a special appearance by the four-legged man of the hour himself!
Ellie’s passion for the mountains has led her and Loki atop hundreds of peaks throughout Colorado, the western United States, and Canada. Last September, she and Loki successfully summited Colorado’s infamous Capitol Peak, the Centennial state’s most dangerous mountain above 14,000 feet, marking the completion of their seven year journey to climb every Colorado 14er together. Then with an ascent of Washington state’s iconic Mt. Rainier, the duo made history as Loki became the first service dog to summit Rainier and the only dog ever to climb all 59 fourteeners across both states. This feat earned him the honor of being recognized as a 2019 Dog of the Year by the American Kennel Club.
