Do I qualify for a Colorado Energy Office E-Bike Tax Rebate?

In August 2025 Colorado started issuing the income verified E-Bike Tax Rebate to individuals who's household income is below 80% of the area median income (AMI) in their county through an application based lottery system.

To receive the $1000-$1300 discount off a qualifying e-bike purchase you must purchase from Bentgate. Bentgate is a participating retailer in this program. Qualifying Coloradans will automatically receive the discount at the time of purchase only when they provide their voucher details. We are proud to offer most of our ebike inventory, excluding suspended electric mountain bikes, as Colorado E-Bike Tax Rebate qualified.

Only one lifetime e-bike rebate is allowed per person.

You will be required to provide your rebate voucher information and provide one proof of address at the point of purchase. All documents must be dated within three months of the e-bike date of purchase. Acceptable proof of address documents include:

Current valid Colorado Driver’s License or ID
Computer-generated bill (utility, credit card, doctor, hospital, etc.)
Printed bank statement
Pre-printed pay stub (from a period within the last 3 months)
First-class mail (from a government agency or court)
Current homeowner's, renter's, or motor vehicle insurance policy
Mortgage, lease, or rental contract
Transcript or report card from an accredited school
Motor vehicle registration
USPS Change of Address Form CNL107
DD Form 214

The bike you purchase must meet the program requirements as well:

Must meet independent UL certification standards. The e-bike must be certified to UL 2849, UL 2271, or EN 15194. E-Bikes that are UL-certified typically have a UL certification logo on the bike battery.
Must be a new e-bike.
Must have an electric motor that is 750 watts or less and must not be gasoline-powered.
Must have two or three wheels and fully operable pedals.
May be any class of e-bike (per the State of Colorado e-bike definition). Includes:
- Class 1: an electrical assisted bicycle equipped with a motor that provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling and that ceases to provide assistance when the bicycle reaches a speed of 20 mph.
- Class 2: an electrical assisted bicycle equipped with a motor that provides assistance regardless of whether the rider is pedaling but ceases to provide assistance when the bicycle reaches a speed of 20 mph.
- Class 3: an electrical assisted bicycle equipped with a motor that provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling and that ceases to provide assistance when the bicycle reaches a speed of 28 mph.
May be an adaptive e-bike.
No minimum purchase price; maximum purchase price of $5,000.
The e-bike must meet the state's definition of an e-bike which, as of August 2025, does not include any vehicle designed with a mode (sometimes advertised as an "off-road" mode) exceeding the three class system or propelling the vehicles faster than 20 MPH with a throttle alone.

Standard E-Bike Rebate Eligibility (up to $1,000 Rebate applies)

In addition to the general e-bike eligibility, a standard e-bike must meet the following criteria:

Has a maximum purchase price of $5,000
Full-suspension mountain e-bikes are not eligible.

E-Cargo Bike Rebate Eligibility (up to $1,300 Rebate applies)

E-cargo bikes can be significantly more expensive than standard e-bikes. There is no minimum purchase price or maximum purchase price. In addition to the general e-bike eligibility, an e-cargo bike must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the e-cargo bike rebate:

Be designed to carry one or more passengers in addition to the rider or designed to carry heavier or bulkier loads than a traditional bicycle can carry; and
Has an extended frame (long tail, long john, Bakfiet, or box bike); and
The extended frame has a published cargo load carrying capacity of at least 100 lbs.

Can I combine my CO E-Bike Tax Rebate with my $225 CO E-Bike Tax Credit?

Yes, we will apply the $225 CO E-Bike Tax Credit first and your CO E-Bike Tax Rebate second in your transaction. Bentgate participates in the CO E-Bike Tax Rebate program and the CO E-Bike Tax Credit program.
